Tomorrow is 4LB's turn and we hope that you will be able to come in and visit our classroom tomorrow between 08:40 and 9:50 to see if you would like to take a tour to the wonderful city of Lisbon!

Maths Homework this week - 21st June

This week we are having a change from what we normally do! We are asking you to visit a great website that you have previously used in class. We would like you to go to the list of maths blogs and choose the Gordon's Maths site. You can select ANY of the games to practise your number skills - yes, ANY of the games can be played!!! BUT, you will need to tell us which of the games you played in Friday's lesson.

We really hope you find this website helpful and it would be great if you visited this over the summer holidays, so add it to your favourites!

Unit of Inquiry homework - research for Summative Assessment task

As the lovely Miss D said in a previous post, we will be using our UoI homework time to continue our research for the Summative Assessment task which will be to create a 'Travel Agency' encouraging a target audience to visit Lisbon (and surrounding beaches, parks, museums etc).

Yesterday, each child should have received 2 'tourist' maps of the Lisbon area. We would like the children to look at the maps they have received and discover all the reasons why someone might like to visit Lisbon. Also, we would like them to look at the different areas which make up Lisbon and the attractions in those different areas (a little geography, i.e. where is the Centro Cultural de Belem in relation to the Parque das Nacoes). Perhaps, they may even be able to PERSUADE you to visit a museum or park in Lisbon that you, as a family, have never been to before...

It would be great to know if they have managed to use the persuasive techniques they have learnt in class to persuade you to go anywhere new!

There is no recording necessary for this homework. Perhaps the children could circle, in one colour, all the places they have already visited, and in another colour all the places they would be interested in visiting.

I hope this will be a fun activity in which the whole family can be involved in celebrating the wonderful city in which we live!

Unit Of Inquiry Homework

Hi all,

Year 4 is working hard on producing a fantastic set of summative assesments - our final one for year 4!

Your homework for this week is to ensure that you continue to do any pieces of work that bring your group closer to producing a fantastic summative assessment.
For example, you may edit your group´s paragraph, research information, collect images etc.
Remember the aim is to be creative and persuasive!

Enjoy!

Maths Homework - Due Friday 18 June

Hi there all,

We are continuing to make some great progress on our work in Maths across Year 4. Currently we are focusing on time, working with money and the revision of strategies learnt throughout the year.

The maths homework for this week is -
  • 4LB to complete page 128 of textbook.
  • 4D to complete the worksheet on money and page 128 of textbook if they have not already done so.
  • The focus for mental maths is number bonds to 100 and timestables and division facts. Please note, with mental maths, the children are encouraged to work on areas that they feel they need improvement.

Enjoy!

Unit of Inquiry homework due Tue 15/06

This week the children need to research Lisbon and surrounding areas (eg. Cascais, Estoril, Monsanto) as a travel destination and come up with a list of 10 main attractions (places to visit or see) in Lisbon or the surrounding areas.

They will also need to write a paragraph of at least 6 lines convincing their target audience of why Lisbon is a fantastic travel destination.

This homework is in preparation for your summative assessment, so if you don't do it you will really be letting your group down!

Please present your work neatly on an A4 piece of paper (typed or handwritten) with the title 'Travel to Lisbon', then the list of 10 places and then the paragraph. Your name should be at the bottom. No images/pictures necessary.

*(This is a little test to see if you can follow clear instructions!)

Enjoy!

Year 4 homework!

The Year 4 team would like to apologise for the inconsistency in homework going up on the blog.

Miss D and Miss Katy have been very heavily involved with the 'Peter Pan' production! I hope you will all be coming on Friday or Saturday night. The play starts at 8pm but you will have to be there a bit earlier if you are an usher or if you haven't bought tickets yet. Please remember that no photos/recordings will be allowed as the production will be being filmed professionally and there are some copyright laws that need to be adhered to!

Miss Bodfish has been running some very important maths workshops for parents and Miss Lamb was away in Dubai on a workshop last week (hence the Henna - in case you were wondering).

Language homework due Fri 4/6

4LB has completed most of their language homework this week in class (which linked to International Children's Day) but they need to finish off any bit they have not completed at home and discuss the first poem with your parents. I think this will prove for lovely conversations and revoke many memories that may have been forgotten. I'm prettu sure 4D knows what their homework is, also related to advertising.

Unit of Inquiry homework due Tue 8/6

For unit of inquiry homework this week you have 2 options relating to touristic adverts:
1) Find an advert in a magazine, newspaper or on this internet that is trying to persuade you to go to a particular city or country. Think about what makes an effective advert and whether this advert that you have found persuades you to visit this place or not. If it is effective - why? If it is not effective - why? How could it be improved? Talk about this with your parents. Bring it in and write your name on it - no other recording necessary!

2) Make your own effective advert convincing a particular target audience to go to a particular city or country. You might need to do some research for this one. You can do any city or country besides Lisbon or Portugal. Using what you have learnt about effective persuasive techniques make sure you advert is convincing, persusasive and attractive (A4 please). Can be done on the computer or by hand.

***PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON THE COMPUTER, THAT GREAT, BUT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PRINT IT OUT (IN LIBRARY OR IT ROOM) BEFORE IT IS DUE IN. We do not have the time in class to print out your homework for you. Bringing us a pen/memory stick with your homework on is not good enough. The library is open most lunchtimes for you to print documents and change books.

Rewards and certificates

Some children have already started receiving reading awards for surpassing Level 10+. If you recive one of these prestigious rewards it then becomes your responsibility to choose your own books from the library/home to read and Miss Katy will no longer change your books for you. Please note that you will still have to read every night and bring in our reading log each morning.

We are also getting ready to hand out of first 'Scribe awards' for mastering the technique of 'joined-up' handwriting. However, please note that this 'pen license' can be revoked at any time if your presentation deteriorates or we feel your handwriting has become illegible! If you receive one of these awards it means you can then write in your language and Unit of Inquiry books in black or blue ink (no other colours please as teachers find it hard to read and mark). You will still need to do all your maths work in pencil. So keep on practicing if you feel you are nearly there. : )

Scat cat
Check out the music blog for a video of 4LB doing their wonderful 'Scat cat' performance for Arts week. A huge thanks to Mrs Balazs for all the time and effort she put int o creating such a magical show.

Any questions, please feel free to email me, as usual!
